Stock printed by John A. Lowell Bank Note Co., Boston. Wyandot mine - Twin Lakes, Houghton County.

Established in 1899, the Wyandot Copper Company was formed to explore and mine copper deposits in Houghton County, Michigan. Its primary target was the Winona Lode near Twin Lakes in the Copper Country region. The company acquired lands previously held by the Escanaba and Copper Mining Company, hoping to discover profitable, high-grade copper. Over the next decade, the company actively drilled several shafts, eventually reaching a total of 11. They also conducted significant underground drifting to locate the rich veins characteristic of the area. Despite these efforts, the mine struggled to achieve consistent profitability. Mining operations often shifted to follow patchy and inconsistent ore lodes.

By 1911, the Wyandot Copper Company had sunk its main shaft to a depth of 1,100 feet and employed a substantial number of workers during its peak operation. However, the mine faced a severe labor shortage, leading to the suspension of mining activities in 1918. With no mining operations conducted for nearly a decade, the company was officially dissolved in 1927. Today, the site is a popular destination for mineral collectors seeking copper, calcite, and epidote. It serves as a testament to the numerous exploratory ventures that contributed to Michigan’s historic copper boom.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
