Vietnam - 20,000 Dong - P-120 - 2016 dated Foreign Paper Money
Country: Vietnam
Years: 2016

20,000 Dong. P-120g Polymer. The Dong has been Vietnam's official currency since May 3, 1978, and is issued by the State Bank of Vietnam. Prior to this, the Dong was also used in North Vietnam and South Vietnam, replacing the French Indochinese piastre. Originally, the Dong was subdivided into 10 hào, with each hào further divided into 10 xu; however, these subdivisions are no longer in use. The Vietnamese Dong has shifted towards the exclusive use of banknotes, with the use of coins significantly declining since 2012. By 2014, coins were generally not accepted in retail transactions, though some banks still accept them. As of May 2021, the Vietnamese Dong is the third weakest circulating currency, behind the Venezuelan bolívar and the Iranian rial, with one US dollar equaling 23,112.04 Dong. Following Vietnam's reunification, the Dong was unified on May 3, 1978, with one new Dong equaling one Northern Dong or 0.8 Southern "liberation" Dong. On September 14, 1985, the Dong was revalued, with one new Dong worth 10 old Dong, initiating a period of chronic inflation that persisted into the early 1990’s.
