Founded in 1935, Stardust Inc. started its journey in New York City’s garment district as the Industrial Undergarment Corp. Initially, the company was a small but resilient firm specializing in women’s intimate apparel. By the 1940's, it had adopted the Stardust brand name and gained widespread recognition for its “Stardust Slips” and “Uplift Bras,” which were frequently featured in mid-century fashion advertisements. As the company expanded its production to include a diverse range of popularly priced daywear and nightwear, it officially changed its name to Stardust Inc.
Throughout the mid-20th century, Stardust Inc. grew and operated several wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Starcrest and Helen of Troy. It also maintained manufacturing units in locations such as Poughkeepsie. In 1968, the company went public and remained a prominent player in the lingerie market until the 1980's. After several mergers, Stardust Inc. eventually became part of Movie Star Inc., a major apparel manufacturer. Movie Star Inc. continued to produce sleepwear and leisurewear based on the foundations laid by the original 1935 incorporation until the 1990's.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firms products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
