It was established by Charles F. Burgess, a professor at the University of Wisconsin. In December 1958, Burgess was acquired by Servel, Inc., a company that produced refrigerators and refrigeration equipment, and subsequently became the Burgess Battery Division of Servel. In 1967, Servel merged with Clevite Corporation, a prominent manufacturer of internal combustion engine bearings. Then, in 1969, Clevite merged with Gould-National Batteries, Inc., leading to the renaming of Burgess to Burgess Battery-Gould, Inc., which became a trade name under Gould-National Batteries.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
