Specimen Stock printed by Security-Columbian Banknote Company. Ware Shoals is a municipality located in Abbeville, Greenwood, and Laurens counties within the U.S. state of South Carolina, situated along the Saluda River. According to the 2020 census, the population stood at 1,701. By the year 1916, the town was as contemporary and advanced as any other in South Carolina. Alongside the cotton mill and the educational institution, the Ware Shoals Manufacturing Corporation, which later became known as Riegel Textile Corporation, contributed to the establishment of electric lighting, water and sewage systems, as well as well-maintained streets in the town. The mill also operated a bank, a railway, an ice factory, a cotton gin, and a cotton seed oil mill. Furthermore, a community center was constructed by the textile company at an expense of $40,000.
