Specimen Stock printed by Security-Columbian United States Banknote Corporation. Republic Steel is an American steel manufacturer that was formerly the third largest steel producer in the nation. Established as the Republic Iron and Steel Company in Youngstown, Ohio in 1899, the company gained prominence in the early 20th Century. However, it faced significant economic challenges and was ultimately acquired before making a comeback in the early 2000s as a subsidiary. Presently, the company produces Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel bars and has a workforce of approximately 2,000 employees. It is currently owned by Grupo Simec, which is headquartered in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
