The Pennsylvania Railroad (reporting mark PRR), legally known as The Pennsylvania Railroad Company and commonly referred to as the "Pennsy," was an American Class I railroad founded in 1846 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Named for its origins in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the railroad experienced rapid growth and by 1882 had become the largest in the world in terms of both traffic and revenue. At its peak, it was not only the largest transportation enterprise but also the largest corporation globally, with a budget exceeded only by that of the U.S. government.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
