Orville Wright of 'Wright Brothers' fame. 1871-1948, U.S. inventor. He early became associated with his brother, Wilbur in the bicycle repair business and from the first shared his interest in mechanical flight. Shop experiments led to the development of a power-driven heavier-than-air machine which was piloted by Orville Wright on its first successful flight made on Dec. 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, N.C. Later, Orville spent much of his life in research.
