Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. “Business continued to boom at Union Tool, and the firm was acquired in 1920 by the National Supply Co., a large industrial machinery firm founded in 1894 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It would become the nation’s largest supplier of equipment to the oil industry, and a pioneer in the development and production of materials for the rotary drilling process. Its Torrance operation changed its name to the National Supply Co., and its business exploded during the 1920s oil drilling boom. Large swaths of oil derricks soon covered the South Bay and Long Beach areas, from the Inglewood oil field to the north to Signal Hill.” From https://sbhistoryblog.wordpress.com/2024/10/11/the-long-lived-national-supply-co-had-roots-in-torrances-first-industrial-firm/

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
