James Madison Jr. (March 16, 1751 – June 28, 1836), an American Founding Father, political theorist, and the fourth President of the United States (1809–1817), is widely regarded as the “Father of the Constitution.” He played a pivotal role in drafting the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Collaborating with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, he authored The Federalist Papers, which were instrumental in securing the ratification of the Constitution and shaping the nation’s foundational government structure.
Born in Virginia and educated at Princeton, Madison served in the Continental Congress and co-founded the Democratic-Republican Party with Thomas Jefferson. As president, he led the nation through the War of 1812 against Great Britain, which ultimately resulted in a restored peace. After his presidency, Madison continued to be actively involved in public service, including serving as the rector of the University of Virginia.
