P-84, P-80A, 85, 82, 87. CU. Great Set of 5. The lempira serves as the official currency of Honduras, divided into 100 centavos. This currency is named in honor of Lempira, a 16th-century cacique and leader of the indigenous Lenca people, who is celebrated in Honduran folklore for his role in resisting Spanish conquistadors. Lempira is regarded as a national hero, and his image appears on the 1 lempira banknote as well as on the 20 and 50 centavos coins. The lempira was established in 1931, replacing the peso at an equal value. During the late 1980s, the exchange rate was set at two lempiras for one United States dollar, with the 20-centavos coin referred to as a daime, reflecting its equivalent value to a U.S. dime. As of April 4, 2022, the exchange rate stood at 24.40 HNL for each US dollar.
