Harley-Davidson, Inc. (commonly known as H-D or Harley) is an American motorcycle manufacturer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Established in 1903, it stands as one of the two principal American motorcycle manufacturers that survived the Great Depression, alongside its historical competitor, Indian Motorcycles. Throughout its history, the company has faced various ownership structures, subsidiary relationships, economic downturns, fluctuations in product quality, and fierce global competition. Despite these challenges, Harley-Davidson has emerged as one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world, renowned for its dedicated customer base.

The company’s customization style played a pivotal role in the emergence of the chopper motorcycle. Historically, Harley-Davidson focused on producing heavyweight, air-cooled cruiser motorcycles with engine displacements exceeding 700 cc. However, in recent years, they have expanded their product line to include modern offerings such as the VRSC (introduced in 2002) and the middle-weight Street (launched in 2015) platforms.

Harley-Davidson’s motorcycles are manufactured in factories located in York, Pennsylvania; Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; Tomahawk, Wisconsin; Manaus, Brazil; and Rayong, Thailand. The company distributes its products globally and also licenses and markets a wide range of merchandise under the Harley-Davidson brand, including apparel, home décor, accessories, toys, scale models of its motorcycles, and video games inspired by its motorcycle line and community.
