Farmers National Bank of Reading, Pennsylvania blotter with lion vignette. Nice! Measures 7 3/4" x 3".
Established in 1814, the Farmers National Bank stood as Reading’s most enduring and venerable financial institution. In 1817, the bank acquired the historic Federal Inn, situated at 445 Penn Street. The Federal Inn, constructed in 1763 by Adam Witman, held the distinction of being one of Reading’s inaugural taverns. Notably, President George Washington spent a solitary night at the Federal Inn on October 1, 1794, during a journey to Carlisle. This journey was undertaken to lead troops in the Whiskey Rebellion, which had reached its zenith that summer and was gradually subsiding.
