DreamWorks Animation LLC (DWA), also referred to as DreamWorks Animation Studios or simply DreamWorks, is an American animation studio that operates under the ownership of Universal Pictures, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, which in turn is part of Comcast. As of December 2023, the studio has produced a total of 47 feature films, with 45 of these having been released in theaters. Among its collection are some of the highest-grossing animated films in history, notably Shrek 2 (2004), which held the record for the highest earnings at the time of its release. The studio's inaugural film, Antz, premiered on October 2, 1998, while its most recent release was Trolls Band Together on November 17, 2023. Upcoming projects include the Netflix original film Orion and the Dark, scheduled for February 2, 2024, and the theatrical release of Kung Fu Panda 4 on March 8, 2024. Furthermore, DreamWorks has earmarked four additional release dates for animated films: September 20, 2024, January 31, 2025, August 1, 2025, and September 26, 2025. Established in 1994 as a division of DreamWorks Pictures, with personnel from Amblin Entertainment's former animation unit, Amblimation, it became an independent entity in 2004. In 2016, NBCUniversal acquired DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion.

The studio initially produced several traditionally animated films and collaborated on three stop-motion projects with Aardman Animations. However, it has since transitioned to exclusively utilizing computer animation. Its notable productions, such as The Prince of Egypt, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and the franchises of Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, have garnered numerous awards, including three Academy Awards, 41 Emmy Awards, various Annie Awards, and multiple nominations for the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. Initially, films from DreamWorks Animation were distributed by DreamWorks Pictures until 2005. From 2006 to 2012, Paramount Pictures handled the distribution, followed by 20th Century Fox (now known as 20th Century Studios) from 2013 to 2017. Since 2019, all films produced by DreamWorks Animation have been released through Universal Pictures, which also holds the majority of rights to its back catalogue.
