The development of crucible steel began in the middle of the 1st millennium BCE in Southern India and Sri Lanka through the wootz process. The first alloy that received formal classification as high-speed steel is referred to by the AISI designation T1, which was introduced in 1910. This alloy was patented by Crucible Steel Co. at the onset of the 20th century.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
