50 Dollars, 2 Series. Jefferson Davis at center with Palmetto Stamp. T-66, CR-495.

Confederate Treasury Notes, also known as banknotes, were issued in various denominations ranging from 50¢ to $1,000. These notes featured diverse designs, issuers, and redeemable obligations. The Confederate Congress enacted numerous acts that led to the issuance of a total of $1.7 billion in currency. From 1861 to 1864, 72 different note types were released across seven series. The sheer variety of Confederate notes, along with notes issued by individual states and banks, posed a significant challenge to the Confederacy due to counterfeiting. Fortunately, many of these contemporary counterfeits are easily identifiable and can be highly valuable to collectors, comparable to the value of a genuine note. The Confederate dollar and coin market continues to thrive, with collectors carefully grading the damage and deterioration of these historical notes, similar to the grading practices employed by booksellers.
