Commercial Solvents Corporation - Specimen Bond
State(s): Maryland

Specimen Bond printed by American Bank Note Company. Commercial Solvents Corporation (CSC) was an American chemical and biotechnology company founded in 1919. Established at the end of World War I, CSC became known as a pioneering producer of acetone and butanol through fermentation processes developed and patented by Dr. Chaim Weizmann. The company selected Terre Haute, Indiana, as its research site due to the favorable conditions for quickly translating new processes from the laboratory and demonstration plant into full production. As early as 1917, the corporation began its efforts in Terre Haute, focusing on the conversion of corn and other grains into ethanol through fermentation. Additionally, they later produced riboflavin using microbial action.

A bond is a document of title for a loan. Bonds are issued, not only by businesses, but also by national, state or city governments, or other public bodies, or sometimes by individuals. Bonds are a loan to the company or other body. They are normally repayable within a stated period of time. Bonds earn interest at a fixed rate, which must usually be paid by the undertaking regardless of its financial results. A bondholder is a creditor of the undertaking.
