Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), often associated with the “Coca-Cola Beverages plc” lineage, traces its origins to the 1990s consolidation of European bottling operations. The name “Coca-Cola Beverages plc” gained prominence in 1998 when it was spun off from Coca-Cola Amatil to manage bottling territories across Central and Eastern Europe. Based in London, it emerged as a major anchor bottler, serving millions of consumers and establishing the infrastructure essential for distributing Coca-Cola’s extensive portfolio throughout the post-Soviet era and expanding European markets.
In 2000, the company underwent a transformative merger with the Hellenic Bottling Company, resulting in the creation of Coca-Cola HBC, one of the world’s largest bottlers. This strategic move effectively concluded the standalone “plc” era by integrating its vast distribution network with Hellenic’s established production capabilities. Today, the legacy of these original bottling agreements endures through CCEP and Coca-Cola HBC, which continue to manage the intricate logistics of manufacturing, packaging, and delivering Coca-Cola products across numerous countries.
John Pemberton, born in 1831 in Georgia, is most renowned for inventing Coca-Cola. However, his life was significantly influenced by his service as a Confederate officer. After graduating from the Reform Medical College of Georgia, Pemberton practiced as a chemist and pharmacist when the Civil War erupted. In 1861, he joined the Confederate Army and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served with the Third Georgia Cavalry and was primarily responsible for managing medical supplies for the troops, utilizing his scientific expertise in this role.
A pivotal moment in Pemberton’s life occurred during the Battle of Columbus in April 1865. He suffered a near-fatal saber wound to the chest. To cope with the excruciating pain during his recovery, he became addicted to morphine, a common challenge faced by veterans of that era. This addiction fueled his post-war pharmaceutical research as he sought to develop a morphine-free painkiller. His experiments eventually led to the creation of a “brain tonic” made from coca leaves and kola nuts. He refined this concoction into the original Coca-Cola formula in 1886, just two years before his untimely death.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
