The Chartiers Trust Company, commonly known as the Chartiers Bank, stood as a prominent institution in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, during the borough’s industrial heyday. Situated at 602 Chartiers Avenue, the bank was established in the early 20th century to cater to the burgeoning population of railroad workers and mill employees. Its grand architectural design, characterized by iconic columns and a robust stone facade, became a symbol of the town’s economic prosperity between 1880 and 1930. During this period, the bank served as a primary financial hub, strategically located near the Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny Railroad tracks.
However, after the decline of the local steel and rail industries following World War II, the building underwent a series of transformations. It was repurposed as a photo studio, doctor’s offices, and eventually a television repair shop. By the late 1970s, the structure began to deteriorate, remaining vacant for over a decade before the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (MRCDC) acquired it through state conservatorship in 2016. Despite an ambitious $2 million plan to revitalize the “Cinderella project” into a modern commercial space, a significant portion of the building’s rear collapsed in March 2024 during stabilization efforts. The severe structural deterioration and the presence of environmental hazards such as asbestos necessitated the commencement of demolition in May 2024. Nevertheless, efforts were made to salvage the historic facade for future use.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firms products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
