Judd, Norman Buell (1815-1878) Lincoln's campaign manager, member of Congress and Diplomat. A lawyer, Judd was associated with the development of several midwestern railroads and assisted with the consolidation of several of these lines, including the Peoria & Bureau Valley, into the Rock Island System. Active in Illinois politics, Buell became Lincoln's campaign manager in the 1860 election and helped arrange the Lincoln-Douglas debates. He served in the Illinois State Senate, 1844-1860; was one of the founders of the Republican Party and nominated Abraham Lincoln for President at the 1860 Republican convention. He was appointed Minister to Prussia by Lincoln, and served from 1861-1865 before returning to the U.S. to enter the Congress (1867-1871). He subsequently served as Collector of Customs for Chicago.
