The Washington Post, affectionately known as the Post or WaPo, is an esteemed American daily newspaper based in Washington, D.C. Renowned for its extensive circulation within the Washington metropolitan area and its substantial national readership, the Post has a rich history spanning over a century. Established in 1877, the newspaper faced challenges during its early years, undergoing several ownership changes and grappling with both financial difficulties and editorial shortcomings. However, in 1933, financier Eugene Meyer emerged as a pivotal figure, purchasing the Post from bankruptcy and reviving its financial health and reputation. Meyer’s legacy continued through his successors, Katharine and Phil Graham, Meyer’s daughter and son-in-law, who expanded the newspaper’s reach by acquiring several rival publications. The Post’s pivotal role in the 1971 publication of the Pentagon Papers played a significant role in fueling opposition to the Vietnam War. Moreover, the investigative journalism of reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who led the investigation into the break-in at the Democratic National Headquarters, ultimately led to the Watergate scandal and the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974. In a notable turn of events, in October 2013, the Graham family sold the newspaper to Nash Holdings, a holding company owned by the renowned Jeff Bezos, for a substantial $250 million.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
