Early handwritten letter signed by Charles Dickinson. Rough condition.
Charles Dickinson Jr. (1752-1836) was a Lieutenant and Captain in the New York City Rangers in 1775 and 1776. He fled New York with General Washington ahead of the British invasion of Long Island and Manhattan. NY Rev. war records list him as Lt, and Capt. Charles Dickenson under Col. Lasher. Charles Dickinson Jr was a lawyer and also coroner for the city and county of New York (Manhattan) circa 1800. He later moved to Tappan, New York, with his family where he later died. Charles Dickinson and Elisie Lansingh, both of Albany, registered banns of marriage in the Reformed Dutch Church of Linlithgo, New York, on 22 October 1783. [2] Not long after their marriage they relocated to the city of New York. In March 1784, Charles Dickenson and Elsie Lansing, his wife, were admitted to membership in the Reformed Dutch Church of the city of New York by certificate from Albany.
