Stock signed twice on back by John P. Poe (possibly a relative of Edgar A. Poe?).

Born in 1809 to itinerant actors and subsequently orphaned, Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was raised by the affluent merchant John Allan, with whom he shared a lifelong, tumultuous relationship. Despite early military service and academic accomplishments, Poe’s primary aspiration was literature, leading him to become the inaugural prominent American writer to attempt earning a living exclusively through his craft. He revolutionized the literary realm by conceiving the modern detective narrative with “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” and refining the Gothic horror genre through psychologically profound tales such as “The Tell-Tale Heart.” After attaining international renown with his 1845 poem “The Raven,” Poe’s life was continually beset by financial instability and the tragic demise of his wife, Virginia. His death in 1849 at the age of 40 remains an enigma, as he was discovered in a state of delirium in Baltimore and succumbed without regaining consciousness. Presently, his legacy as an architect of the short story and a pioneer of science fiction continues to exert an enduring influence on world literature and popular culture.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
