Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. Facsimile Signatures of Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Planet Hollywood International Inc. (stylized as planet Hollywood, planet Hollywood observatory, and ph) is a themed restaurant that draws inspiration from the legendary allure of Hollywood. The company is owned by Earl Enterprises Corporation, founded by Robert Earl. The first establishment was launched in New York City on October 22, 1991, with the backing of Hollywood icons Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis. These celebrities received compensation for their involvement and endorsements through an employee stock ownership plan. Further celebrity endorsements were provided by actors including Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Don Johnson, Cindy Crawford, Melanie Griffith, Tom Arnold, Wesley Snipes, and Danny Glover, along with contributions from director John Hughes, comedian Roseanne Barr, and Ringo Starr, the drummer of The Beatles.

Robert Earl had previously built a reputation for creating themed restaurants, initially in Britain during the 1970s and later in Orlando, Florida. In 1987, he sold his restaurant group, President Entertainments, which included 70 establishments, to a larger company, Pleasurama PLC. Following this, Earl acquired the eastern rights to Hard Rock Cafe International from co-founder Isaac Tigrett and was appointed as the chief executive of the company in 1989. By the end of that year, Mecca Leisure took over Pleasurama, which was subsequently acquired by the Rank Organisation in 1990. Over the next two years, while expanding Hard Rock Cafe from seven to 20 locations, Earl worked closely with Bryan Kestner, united by the belief that music, movies, and sports could bridge linguistic and cultural divides.
