The RCA Corporation, founded in 1919 as the Radio Corporation of America, was a prominent American electronics company. Initially, it was a patent trust owned by General Electric (GE), Westinghouse, AT&T Corporation, and United Fruit Company. In 1932, RCA became an independent entity after its partners were compelled to divest their ownership as part of a government antitrust settlement.

Throughout its history, RCA demonstrated innovation and progress, becoming the dominant electronics and communications firm in the United States for over five decades. In the early 1920s, RCA played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of the radio industry, serving as a leading manufacturer of radio receivers and the exclusive supplier of the first superheterodyne models. Moreover, RCA pioneered the establishment of the first nationwide American radio network, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC).

RCA’s contributions extended beyond radio. The company was a pioneer in the introduction and development of television, both black and white, and particularly, color television. During this period, RCA was closely associated with the leadership of David Sarnoff, who held various positions within the company, including general manager at its founding, president in 1930, and remained active as chairman of the board until the end of 1969.
