Willys-Overland Motors, initially established in 1903 as the automotive division of the Standard Wheel Company, gained prominence after John North Willys acquired the struggling Overland division in 1908. By 1912, the company was renamed the Willys-Overland Motor Company and relocated its primary operations to a massive plant in Toledo, Ohio. During the 1910s, it rose to become the second-largest automobile manufacturer in the United States, trailing only Ford Motor Company. However, the company encountered significant financial challenges after World War I and during the Great Depression, prompting a reorganization in 1936.

The company’s most enduring legacy began in 1940 when it was contracted by the U.S. military to produce a lightweight reconnaissance vehicle based on a design by American Bantam. This vehicle, the Willys MB, became the iconic “Jeep” that played a crucial role in the Allied war effort. Willys produced approximately 360,000 units by the end of World War II. After the war, the company shifted its focus to the civilian market with the Jeep CJ series, effectively establishing the blueprint for the modern sport utility vehicle. In 1953, the firm was acquired by Kaiser Motors and subsequently underwent various ownership changes, including AMC and Chrysler, ultimately becoming the globally recognized Jeep brand we know today.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
