Lee de Forest, born on August 26, 1873, and passing away on June 30, 1961, was an American inventor and an early pioneer in the fields of radio and sound-on-film recording for motion pictures. He held over 180 patents, yet his career was marked by significant challenges. He boasted of making and losing four fortunes. De Forest was also involved in several major patent lawsuits, incurring substantial legal expenses and even facing a trial and acquittal for mail fraud. His most renowned invention, unveiled in 1906, was the three-element “Audion” (triode) vacuum tube—the first practical amplification device. Despite having a limited grasp of its workings, the Audion laid the groundwork for the electronics industry, paving the way for radio broadcasting, long-distance telephone lines, and talking motion pictures, among countless other applications.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
