Stock issued to and signed on verso on the back by Charles J. Devlin. He was an American coal mine operator. One of the wealthiest men in the state of Kansas, Charles J. Devlin served as the head of 26 different companies, including coal mining enterprises and mercantile establishments in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois.

The Osage Carbon Company was the successor to The Osage Carbon, Coal and Mining Company, the first mining company to open a shaft in coal rich Osage City, Kansas. Employing 600 men it mined an average of 750 tons of coal a day.
