Cardinal Stage Lines was part of the Santa Fe Trail Transportation system, primarily operating in Kansas and Nebraska. The Santa Fe Trail Transportation Company was created as a subsidiary of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) in the late 1930s. It was formed in response to the growing competition from trucking companies that were making inroads into the railroad's less-than-carload (LCL) freight business. The Santa Fe Trail Transportation Company continued to expand over the years, reaching 17,000 route miles and 5,656 pieces of equipment by 1970. However, due to economic challenges and industry changes, the company was eventually sold in April 1984 to Rail Services Inc., marking the end of its 45-year history as part of the Santa Fe railway system.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
