Completed in January 1893 and officially opened in June of the same year, the New Boston Railroad was a crucial five-mile spur line connecting New Boston, New Hampshire, to the wider rail network at Parker Station in Goffstown. Constructed at a cost of $84,000, the line was primarily initiated by J.R. Whipple to efficiently transport produce, dairy, and livestock from his New Boston farms to his hotels in Boston. The line boasted a fieldstone depot in New Boston village, designed by the renowned architect Bradford Lee Gilbert. Despite a fire in 1895, the depot remained a hub for local commerce, shipping thousands of barrels of apples and supporting local industries like the nearby box factory.

For nearly four decades, the railroad served as a lifeline for the town, operating two daily runs each way that connected residents to Manchester. However, the advent of automobiles and a decline in traffic led to the cessation of passenger service on June 13, 1931, followed by the complete removal of the tracks in June 1935. The New Boston Railroad Company was officially dissolved in 1937. The abandoned line was later transformed into a recreational rail trail, with the original, restored depot serving as a poignant reminder of the area’s industrial agricultural heritage.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
