The Clearfield and Mahoning Railway (C&M), incorporated on May 28, 1892, played a crucial role in the expansion of central Pennsylvania’s coal networks. Constructed between July 1892 and June 30, 1893, the 27-mile line connected the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway (BR&P) near DuBois to the Beech Creek Railroad near Clearfield. Controlled by the investment firm A. Iselin & Company, the C&M was immediately leased in perpetuity to the BR&P upon completion, providing a vital outlet for bituminous coal from the Clearfield region to markets in Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Rochester.

Over the years, the C&M underwent several significant rail consolidations while maintaining its importance as a critical artery for the region’s coal and refractory industries. In 1913, it expanded its reach by acquiring the Bridgeport & Widemire Railway, which served the Harbison-Walker Refractories Company in Grampian. Following the absorption of the BR&P into the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1932, the line eventually transitioned through the hands of the Chessie System and CSX Transportation. In 1996, the property was sold to the R.J. Corman Railroad Group, where it continues to operate as a non-operating subsidiary.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
