George H.W. Bush - circa 1988-89 Inaugural Stickpin and Necklace - George Herbert Walker Bush
Inv# AM2005George H.W. Bush Inaugural Stickpin and Necklace. Not Gold.
On Friday, January 20, 1989, George H. W. Bush was inaugurated as the 41st president of the United States at the West Front of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. This marked the 51st inauguration and the only term of both Bush and Dan Quayle as president and vice president, respectively. Chief Justice William Rehnquist administered the presidential oath of office to Bush, while Justice Sandra Day O’Connor administered the vice presidential oath of office to Quayle. Notably, Bush became the first sitting vice president to be inaugurated as president since Martin Van Buren in 1837, and he was the last World War II combat veteran to hold the office. Bush composed his own prayer for the ceremony, which he recited at the beginning of his inaugural address, a tradition he shared with Dwight D. Eisenhower at his first inauguration in 1953.
