The Seattle-Tacoma Short Line was a proposed electric railway chartered in 1907 with the aim of connecting the two major Puget Sound cities. It was previously known as the Muckler-Wightman line and was planned to follow the scenic route along the Sound for much of its journey. The vision was to provide quick and efficient service between the cities, with the approximately 30-mile trip intended to take just one hour. This initiative was part of a larger movement among electric railway companies to compete with steam railroads for short-haul passenger traffic by adopting more modern and efficient business methods.
While the 1907 venture did not materialize, the name "Seattle-Tacoma Short Line" represents an early ambition for rapid inter-urban transit in the region. Today, this dream is realized through modern commuter rail and light rail systems operated by Sound Transit. The Sounder commuter rail's S Line runs between Seattle and Lakewood/Tacoma, providing passenger service over a route that partly follows the historic Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Seattle Subdivision and a former Milwaukee Road line. This modern-day short-line service fulfills the original goal of connecting Seattle and Tacoma with frequent, regular passenger service, a concept that was innovative in the early 20th century.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
