According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 13,195, making it the fourth-least populous county in California. The county seat is Bridgeport. It lies east of the Sierra Nevada, positioned between Yosemite National Park and Nevada. The county's only incorporated town is Mammoth Lakes, located at the base of Mammoth Mountain. Other notable locations include June Lake, known for its skiing and fishing resorts. Mono Lake, located in the county's center, is a crucial habitat for migratory and nesting birds and is renowned for its striking tufa formations in the lake's alkaline waters. Additionally, Mono County is home to Bodie, a historic gold rush ghost town now preserved as a California State Historic Park.
Mono County was established in 1861 from parts of Calaveras, Fresno, and Mariposa counties. In 1864, a portion of northern Mono County was used to create Alpine County, and additional territory was transferred to Inyo County in 1866. The county's name derives from Mono Lake, which was named in 1852 after the Mono people, a Paiute tribe that historically lived in the Sierra Nevada region from north of the lake to Owens Lake. The tribe's western neighbors, the Yokuts, referred to them as "monachie," meaning "fly people," due to their reliance on fly larvae as a primary food source and trading commodity. A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
