Trapshooter Reilly Gold Mines - Stock Certificate

Stock and receipt. The pair. The "Trapshooter" Reilly Gold Mines were a collection of mining properties primarily located in Yavapai County, Arizona, specifically within the Crooks Canyon area. These holdings included the older Crook, Venezia, Starlight, and Mount Union mines. Situated near the former Venezia post office, roughly 15 miles from Prescott via the Senator Highway, these mines were initially worked extensively in the oxidized zones, typically to depths of less than 200 feet. The geological setting of the area is characterized by granite formations and numerous dikes of various compositions, providing a favorable environment for mineralization.

Later operations at the Trapshooter Reilly Gold Mines shifted to deeper sulfide ores, which were processed in a 20-stamp amalgamation-concentration mill at Venezia and another at Mount Union. From 1927 to around 1932, the Westerner Gold-Lead Mining Company held the property, and during this period, they reportedly milled about 100 tons of gold ore and shipped a carload of lead-zinc ore. While the overall production from these mines may not have been exceptionally large, they represent a significant chapter in the history of gold mining in Arizona, particularly during a time when economic conditions spurred increased interest in gold prospecting and extraction.
