Dunhill is a cigarette brand based in Westminster, London, owned and produced by Dunhill and British American Tobacco. The brand's name honors the English tobacconist, entrepreneur, and inventor Alfred Dunhill. In the UK, Dunhill is both registered and manufactured in Westminster, City of Westminster, London. Dunhill was established in London on 10 March 1907 when tobacconist and inventor Alfred Dunhill opened a modest tobacconist's shop on Duke Street in the St James's district. He provided tobacco blends customized for each individual customer. The Dunhill brand was launched in 1908 under the name Absorbal. It was created to address any perceived health concerns and featured a "world first" - a cotton wool filter tip. Its tagline was the "Hygienic Cigarette." Dunhill cigarettes held a royal warrant from 1927 until 1995. In 1939, the brand was introduced in the United States by Philip Morris USA, which acquired the marketing rights for the U.S., and in 1962, "Dunhill International" was launched.
