In 2013, Abbott Laboratories separated its research-driven pharmaceutical division, creating AbbVie. Wallace Abbott, who graduated from the University of Michigan in 1885, founded the Abbott Alkaloidal Company in Ravenswood, Chicago, at the age of 30. As a practicing physician and drug store owner, he innovated by utilizing the active components of medicinal plants, primarily alkaloids such as morphine, quinine, strychnine, and codeine, to create small 'dosimetric granules'. This method proved effective in delivering more reliable and potent dosages to patients. In 1922, the company relocated from Ravenswood to North Chicago, Illinois.
A bond is a document of title for a loan. Bonds are issued, not only by businesses, but also by national, state or city governments, or other public bodies, or sometimes by individuals. Bonds are a loan to the company or other body. They are normally repayable within a stated period of time. Bonds earn interest at a fixed rate, which must usually be paid by the undertaking regardless of its financial results. A bondholder is a creditor of the undertaking.
