Hermosillo, previously known as Pitic (referring to Santísima Trinidad del Pitic and Presidio del Pitic), is a city located in the central region of the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora. It serves as the municipal seat of the Hermosillo municipality, which is the capital and largest city of the state, as well as the primary economic hub for both the state and the surrounding region. As of the year 2020, the city boasts a population of 936,263, ranking it as the 18th largest city in Mexico. The recent growth in the city's population can be attributed to increased industrialization, particularly within the automotive sector.
