Silver Complete 10-Coin 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics Sterling Silver Set.

The Royal Canadian Mint released a prestigious 10-coin silver proof set to commemorate and finance the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games. Produced between 1985 and 1987, each coin in the series holds a face value of $20 CAD and contains one troy ounce of actual silver weight, struck in .925 sterling silver. Notably, this set introduced edge lettering to Canadian silver coinage for the first time, featuring the inscription “XV OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES - JEUX OLYMPIQUES D’HIVER.” These coins are typically housed in a signature green felt or leatherette display case and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The collection boasts ten distinct reverse designs, each showcasing a different winter sport: downhill skiing, speed skating, hockey, biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, figure skating, curling, ski jumping, and bobsleigh. While the reverse displays dynamic action shots of athletes, the obverse of every coin features the second-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
