Trump Entertainment Resorts, Inc. was an American gambling and hospitality company that operated various properties across the United States. The company’s history began in 1995 when Donald Trump founded Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts. Initially, Trump held a majority stake in the company. However, after 2004, he reduced his ownership to a minority.

Trump’s real estate empire began in the early 1980s when he started purchasing properties along the Atlantic City boardwalk. In 1982, he received a casino license from the New Jersey Casino Control Commission (CCC). Initially, Trump had planned to build his own casino on the boardwalk, but his plans were delayed when Mike Rose, the CEO of Holiday Inn and Harrah’s, approached him to manage the construction of a Holiday Inn Casino-Hotel. The casino opened in May 1984, and two years later, Trump bought out Holiday Inn’s shares in the property and renamed it the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.

Over the years, Trump Entertainment Resorts expanded its portfolio to include other properties such as Trump World’s Fair in Atlantic City, Trump Marina in Atlantic City, Trump Casino & Hotel in Gary, Indiana, Trump 29 in Coachella, California, and Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. However, the company faced financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy in 2004, 2009, and 2014. In 2016, Trump Entertainment Resorts became a subsidiary of Icahn Enterprises, and since then, all of its properties have been closed and sold.
