Bohack Corporation - Specimen Stock Certificate - Supermarket Chain
Inv# SE3127 Specimen Stock
Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. Max Sloan was born in the Bronx and grew up in foster care after the death of his mother. He left school after the eighth grade to sell fruits and vegetables from a pushcart. In 1940, with just $500, he opened a small fruit and vegetable store, which eventually expanded into the Orange Grove chain. Together with his partner, Lou Meyer, Sloan operated a wholesale produce business that supplied fruits and vegetables to numerous grocery stores in Manhattan and the Bronx. In 1956, they entered the supermarket industry, opening two stores in Manhattan and expanding to 25 Sloan Supermarket Stores by 1973, primarily on Manhattan's West Side. The chain later acquired seven additional stores from the Bohack Corporation, boosting Sloan's annual sales to $42 million.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
