The Texas Power and Light Company (TP&L) was a pivotal force in the modernization of Texas during the early 20th century. Established in 1912 as a subsidiary of the American Power and Light Company, TP&L emerged from the consolidation of several smaller municipal electric systems. Headquartered in Dallas, TP&L quickly became a pioneer in rural electrification and industrial development.
One of TP&L’s most significant historical achievements was the construction of the first high-voltage transmission line in Texas, connecting Waco to Fort Worth and Dallas. This groundbreaking project enabled a more reliable and centralized power grid, catalyzing the rapid growth of Texas’s manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
Throughout the mid-20th century, TP&L played a crucial role in expanding the Texas Interconnected System, the precursor to today’s independent state grid. The company was renowned for its aggressive promotion of “all-electric” living and its efforts to bring affordable power to remote farming communities that had previously relied on kerosene and manual labor.
In 1984, after decades of expansion, TP&L merged with Dallas Power & Light and Texas Electric Service Company to form Texas Utilities (now Vistra Corp and Oncor). While the TP&L name is no longer in active use, its legacy continues to be etched in the physical infrastructure that powers millions of homes and businesses across North and East Texas.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firms products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
