Tandy Brands, Inc. has a rich history rooted in Fort Worth, Texas. It all began in 1919 when the Hinckley-Tandy Leather Company was founded to sell shoe repair supplies. After World War II, Charles D. Tandy, the son of co-founder Dave Tandy, recognized the potential of the leathercraft hobby market. This led to the formation of the separate Tandy Leather Company in 1950.
The business experienced rapid growth, opening numerous stores and establishing a substantial mail-order operation. A pivotal moment came in 1963 when Charles Tandy acquired a struggling electronics retailer in Boston called RadioShack. This acquisition marked a strategic shift for the company. By 1975, Tandy Corp. had grown into a large conglomerate, spinning off the original leather operations into Tandycrafts, Inc. and focusing primarily on electronics.
The electronics-focused Tandy Corporation gained widespread recognition for its chain of RadioShack stores. It played a significant role in the personal computer revolution, introducing the affordable TRS-80 microcomputer line in 1977. Under Charles Tandy’s leadership, RadioShack expanded globally and became a dominant force in consumer electronics retail. However, the corporation diversified into various other retail ventures, including Computer City and Incredible Universe.
Despite these efforts, the corporation faced challenges and eventually sold off its various operations. The original leather business, which eventually became Tandy Leather Factory, Inc., was sold off in 2000. Today, it continues to operate as a specialty retailer of leather and leatherwork products, preserving the legacy of the Tandy name.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
