A Democrat, he is most notable for his service as the 38th Governor of Louisiana from 1924 until his death in 1926.
Henry L. Fuqua was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 8, 1865, a son of James Overton Fuqua (1822–1875) and Jeannette Maria (Foules) Fuqua (1833–1900). Fuqua's father was an attorney and veteran of the Mexican–American War who served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. His siblings included Stephen O.
