Arcadia is a city and serves as the county seat of DeSoto County, Florida, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population was recorded at 7,637, with an estimated increase to 7,722 by 2014. The city's Historic District is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. During the late 19th century, Arcadia functioned as the county seat for several regions that would later evolve into distinct counties. In 1921, legislation was enacted designating Arcadia as the county seat of DeSoto County, which subsequently led to the establishment of the current counties of Charlotte, Hardee, Glades, and Highlands.
