William Bingham (1752-1804), Banker, Legislator. Founder and director of the Bank of North America, the first bank in the country (1781). Served in the Continental Congress (1786-89), and in the U.S. Senate (1795-1801). He signs this early Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike stock in 1795 as its first President. This is America’s first turnpike! Printed on sheepskin and in Superb Condition. It has the most charming vignette of a covered wagon about to pass through a toll gate. These stocks were found in the 1970’s in one of the Philadelphia Transit Corp. carbarns, along with Philadelphia street railway and related stocks. Becoming quite scarce in nice choice condition.
Condition: A.U.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
