Specimen Stock. Printed by American Bank Note Company. Wachovia was a multifaceted financial services institution headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to its acquisition by Wells Fargo & Company in 2008, Wachovia ranked as the fourth-largest bank holding company in the United States, measured by total assets. The company offered an extensive array of banking, asset management, wealth management, and corporate and investment banking services. At its peak, Wachovia was among the largest financial service providers in the nation, operating financial centers across 21 states and Washington, D.C., with a presence extending from Connecticut to Florida and as far west as California. Additionally, Wachovia maintained a global footprint with over 40 offices worldwide. The acquisition of Wachovia by Wells Fargo was finalized on December 31, 2008, following a government-mandated sale aimed at preventing the company's collapse. The integration of the Wachovia brand into Wells Fargo took place over a three-year period, culminating on October 15, 2011, when the final Wachovia branches in North Carolina were rebranded as Wells Fargo.
