Chevron Corporation, an American multinational energy corporation, primarily focuses on oil and gas. As the second-largest direct descendant of Standard Oil, it was originally known as the Standard Oil Company of California (Socal or CalSo). Headquartered in San Ramon, California, Chevron operates globally, spanning over 180 countries. Within the oil and gas sector, Chevron is vertically integrated, encompassing hydrocarbon exploration, production, refining, marketing, and transportation. Additionally, the company engages in chemical manufacturing and sales, as well as power generation.

Chevron’s history can be traced back to the 1870s when small California-based oil companies were acquired by Standard Oil and subsequently merged into Standard Oil of California. After the breakup of Standard Oil, the company experienced rapid growth by acquiring companies and collaborating with others, both within and outside California. This expansion led to its status as one of the Seven Sisters that dominated the global petroleum industry from the mid-1940s to the 1970s. In 1985, Socal merged with the Pittsburgh-based Gulf Oil, resulting in the formation of Chevron. Later, in 2001, Chevron merged with Texaco. Today, Chevron manufactures and sells fuels, lubricants, additives, and petrochemicals, primarily in Western North America, the US Gulf Coast, Southeast Asia, South Korea, and Australia. In 2018, the company produced an average of 791,000 barrels (125,800 m3) of net oil-equivalent per day in the United States.
