Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. Facsimile Signatures of Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Planet Hollywood International Inc. (stylized as planet Hollywood, planet Hollywood observatory, and ph) is a themed dining establishment inspired by the iconic image of Hollywood. The enterprise is owned by Earl Enterprises Corporation, which was established by Robert Earl. The inaugural location was opened in New York City on October 22, 1991, with the support of Hollywood celebrities Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis. These actors were compensated for their participation and endorsements through an employee stock ownership plan. Additional celebrity endorsements came from actors such as Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Don Johnson, Cindy Crawford, Melanie Griffith, Tom Arnold, Wesley Snipes, and Danny Glover, as well as director John Hughes, comedian Roseanne Barr, and Ringo Starr, the drummer of The Beatles.

Robert Earl had previously established a reputation for launching themed restaurants, first in Britain during the 1970s and later in Orlando, Florida. In 1987, he divested his restaurant group, President Entertainments, which comprised 70 establishments, to a larger entity, Pleasurama PLC. Subsequently, Earl gained control of Hard Rock Cafe International (eastern rights) from co-founder Isaac Tigrett and was appointed chief executive of the company in 1989. By the end of that year, Mecca Leisure acquired Pleasurama, which was then purchased by the Rank Organisation in 1990. During the subsequent two years, while expanding Hard Rock Cafe from seven to 20 locations, Earl collaborated with Bryan Kestner, sharing a vision that music, movies, and sports could transcend linguistic and cultural barriers.
