Pixar Animation Studios is an American animation firm situated in Emeryville, California, renowned for its critically acclaimed and commercially successful computer-animated feature films. Since 2006, it has functioned as a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, which is part of the Disney Entertainment division of the Walt Disney Company. The studio was established in 1979 as a division of the Lucasfilm computer division, originally referred to as the Graphics Group, and became an independent entity in 1986, following substantial investment from Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, who became its majority shareholder. In January 2006, Disney purchased Pixar for a valuation exceeding $7.4 billion, converting each share of Pixar stock into 2.3 shares of Disney stock.
Pixar is widely recognized for its feature films, which benefit from the advanced technology of RenderMan, the studio's proprietary version of the RenderMan Interface Specification image-rendering API. The iconic character representing the studio is Luxo Jr., a desk lamp that appears in its 1986 short film of the same title. As of October 2023, Pixar has produced 27 feature films, starting with Toy Story (1995), the first fully computer-animated feature, and culminating with Elemental (2023). The studio has also created a variety of short films. By July 2023, Pixar's feature films had collectively earned over $15 billion at the worldwide box office, with an average of $546.9 million per film. Noteworthy entries such as Toy Story 3 (2010), Finding Dory (2016), Incredibles 2 (2018), and Toy Story 4 (2019) each exceeded $1 billion in revenue and are listed among the 50 highest-grossing films in history. Additionally, 15 of Pixar's films are featured in the top 50 highest-grossing animated films of all time. The studio has garnered 23 Academy Awards, 10 Golden Globe Awards, and 11 Grammy Awards, along with numerous other honors and recognitions.
Since its inception in 2001, Pixar has produced a total of eleven films that have been awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The titles of these films are Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story 3 (2010), Brave (2012), Inside Out (2015), Coco (2017), Toy Story 4 (2019), and Soul (2020). It is noteworthy that both Toy Story 3 and Up received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Picture. On February 10, 2009, Pixar executives John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, and Lee Unkrich were awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival, with the physical award being presented to George Lucas, the founder of Lucasfilm.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
